Thinking Of Others

On Friday we stopped as a school to stand in silence for 2 minutes as a mark of respect for the 50 people who died in the terrible church shootings in Christchurch last Friday. It made us think that everybody is important and we all belong to the family of God.

Live Simply Day for Caritas

On Friday we had a Live Simply Day to raise money for the good work of Caritas and the children went without packaged treats and just ate simple food like a sandwich and fruit instead of all the choices they usually have. We did this so we could think about children in other countries who never get treats and have very little to eat. Well done Room Four.

Max's Maths News!

Max showed us how to make a 3D triangle and a square based pyramid using marshmellows and skewers. It fitted in really well with our maths topic at the moment which is looking at different geometry shapes.

Ashley's rabbit visits Room Four.

Ashley brought her lovely big pet white rabbit in to class visit us for her special news on Friday. Floof  was well behaved and was so soft to touch. Thank you Ashley.

Well done Leila!

Leila showed us her singing trophy and told us what she likes about singing. She sang one of her favourite Ed Sheeran songs for us. Well done Leila.

Well done Addison and Hugo!

Addison and Hugo have had a great year with the Taieri Athletics Club and worked hard to develop their skills and get in the top 3 placements in many of their events. Addison also won a trophy. Well done the two of you.

Fun With Our Buddies

With the weather being so gorgeous lately we have been catching up with our Room 6 buddies and enjoying playing multisport games. We run onto the court as a group of 4 or 6 or whatever number is called out and once we start running on to the court Mrs Matheson rolls out a rugby ball or a soccer ball or a netball or a basketball and we play to the rules of that particular game. It is lots of fun and exercise.

Blaine's Fabulous Prize!

Blaine was very lucky as he won a framed set or All Black rugby cards and he brought them along to show us fro special news. Thank you Blaine for sharing your good luck with us.

Congratulations on xtra maths boys!

Congratulations to Hugo and Dejay on completing subtraction and Nathaniel on completing addition on their xtramaths page. Well done to you all. We hope we will soon be giving out lots more certificates to other children in our class.

New Dictionaries for Room Four

Thank you to Mr Seddon and Mr Shanks from the Taieri Rotary Club for presenting every child in Year 4 with their very own dictionary to use and keep. They are very cool. Some children even get them out to look through at silent reading time.

Amelia's Science News

Amelia brought a lot of ice cubes to school. She lay some string over the ice cubes and sprinkled some salt over the string where it was touching the ice. we watched and noticed that the ice seemed to change shape a little and grab on to the string but we couldn't quite get it to lift up the ice cube with the string before it broke away. It was very cool to watch though. Thank you Amelia.

What will happen to the eggs Deacon?

Deacon brought two eggs to school. He put one egg in cold water and the other egg in a container with white vinegar in it. We left the eggs overnight. The next day the vinegar egg had lost all its shell and felt like rubber. The egg in water looked just the same. It was amazing.

Ashley's Wonderful Patterns

Today Ashley put some milk in a dish and then added 4 drops of red food colouring in each corner of the dish. Then she dipped a cotton bud into some dish wash liquid and put it in the milky mixture. It made the colour go into interesting swirling  patterns. We all loved your experiment Ashley.

Fabulous News Time in Room Four

Today Lewis showed us how to make a catapault using play dough and some skewers. It was very cool.

African Art from South Sudan

Today Mrs Hamman taught us about tribal art from South Sudan. It is painted with lots of tiny little dots and bigger circles around the outside of your shape using really bright colours. Our art looks great so you will have to come in to Room 4 and see them on the wall.

Shrove Tuesday!

Yesterday we made yummy mini pancakes (Pikelets) to celebrate Shrove Tuesday, the day before Lent begins. During Lent we try to go without some treats or things we really like doing to think about others around the world who get no choices about what they might do or play with or do not have enough food to eat, and try to imagine what that might feel like day after day. Thanks Kaley's Mum for being our awesome flapjack cooker! You are the best. They were a yummy treat! Sorry i didn't have any strawberries and cream to go with them Kaley!
