Whanau Fun

Last week at whanau time we had fun playing some co operative games where we had to talk and listen to each other and work together to be able to complete our tasks. There was lots of laughter especially with the passing the hoop without letting go of your partners hands activity.

Praying the Rosary Together

Each morning during the month of October we gather together as a whole school to pray the Rosary. Each class takes a turn to lead the special story or mystery of the day. The children are getting very good at praying using the rosary beads and afe learning about a very special traditional prayer of the Church as well

.

Room 4 Class Mass

Thank you Father Michael for helping us celebrate our special class Mass in the Day Chapel. The children did all the special prayers, readings, offertory procession, a play about the Last Supper and sang beautifully. They were a credit to their family and our School.

Addison's Science News

Addison had us very interested in her science experiment at news time last week when she told us she was going to put 2 pencils through a plastic bag of water and she wouldn't spill a drop. We weren't quite sure about this thinking it might turn out with a big spill all over the floor but she proved she knew what she was doing. Thank you Addi for such interesting news.

Kora entertains Room 4

Kora entertained us recently when she showed us how well she can play the drums. We were very impressed with the way she could keep the beat with her hands and her feet all at the same time. Wow you are very talented Kora.

Liam's Science News

Liam put some baking soda in a balloon which he then attached over the top of a bottle that had some vinegar in it. When he tilted the balloon, the baking soda mixed in with the vinegar and caused a chemical reaction. The balloon quickly filled up with a gas. When we tied the balloon up and dropped we thought it would float but it just fell to the ground. The gas inside was a heavy gas called carbon dioxide. Thank you Liam for your awesome experiment.

Shared Lunch

Today we had a shared lunch to farewell Dejay and his family as they move to Twizel for school. We are sad to say goodbye Dejay but I'm sure we will see you again one day.

Kaley's Science News

Today Kaley showed us how a lava lamp works. She had oil in a jar and then she poured in some water which immediately dropped down to the bottom of the jar. Then she added some red food colouring and mixed it and finally she added in an Alka Seltzer tablet which started making the fat globules in the oil push up to the top and then spread out again making really interesting patterns. It was a cool experiment to watch - thank you Kayley.

Well done Carlo!

Carlo shared his exciting news about BMX racing with us today. Carlo got lots of certificates and also got a trophy for all his hard work at BMX during the season. Prize giving was on Tuesday night and is finished now till September. Well done Carlo!

Thinking Of Others

On Friday we stopped as a school to stand in silence for 2 minutes as a mark of respect for the 50 people who died in the terrible church shootings in Christchurch last Friday. It made us think that everybody is important and we all belong to the family of God.

Live Simply Day for Caritas

On Friday we had a Live Simply Day to raise money for the good work of Caritas and the children went without packaged treats and just ate simple food like a sandwich and fruit instead of all the choices they usually have. We did this so we could think about children in other countries who never get treats and have very little to eat. Well done Room Four.

Max's Maths News!

Max showed us how to make a 3D triangle and a square based pyramid using marshmellows and skewers. It fitted in really well with our maths topic at the moment which is looking at different geometry shapes.

Ashley's rabbit visits Room Four.

Ashley brought her lovely big pet white rabbit in to class visit us for her special news on Friday. Floof  was well behaved and was so soft to touch. Thank you Ashley.

Well done Leila!

Leila showed us her singing trophy and told us what she likes about singing. She sang one of her favourite Ed Sheeran songs for us. Well done Leila.

Well done Addison and Hugo!

Addison and Hugo have had a great year with the Taieri Athletics Club and worked hard to develop their skills and get in the top 3 placements in many of their events. Addison also won a trophy. Well done the two of you.

Fun With Our Buddies

With the weather being so gorgeous lately we have been catching up with our Room 6 buddies and enjoying playing multisport games. We run onto the court as a group of 4 or 6 or whatever number is called out and once we start running on to the court Mrs Matheson rolls out a rugby ball or a soccer ball or a netball or a basketball and we play to the rules of that particular game. It is lots of fun and exercise.
